Opt-outs and do not contact
How candidates stop your texts or emails, what you see when they do, and what do not contact means.
Candidates can stop your texts, your emails, or both. Texts and emails are separate: stopping one never stops the other. An opt-out applies only to your agency. Other agencies on CareCommunity are not affected.
How candidates opt out
- Email: every email you send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Using it, or the unsubscribe button in their email app, stops your emails. Marking your email as spam does the same.
- Text: the candidate replies with STOP. These words also work, sent on their own: STOP ALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE and OPT OUT. A sentence that happens to contain "stop" is treated as a normal reply.
Anything still waiting to go out to them on that channel is cancelled.
Note: Texting also needs an opt-in first. Candidates who didn't choose texts on their application, or didn't opt in on their CareCommunity profile, are never texted.
Opt-outs follow the address
An opt-out belongs to the email address or phone number, not to one application. If the same person applies to another of your jobs with the same address, they're still opted out. If they give you a new email address or phone number, that new one can be contacted.
There's no way to opt someone back in from the ATS.
What you see
In the candidate's Messages tab, the channel they opted out of is greyed out with the reason next to it:
- Text: "opted out of texts"
- Email: "unsubscribed from your emails"
If they opted out of both, or opted out of one and can't be reached on the other, the tab says there is nothing to send to. A message that was blocked shows Not delivered with the reason. Automatic messages skip that channel on their own.
Do not contact
Do not contact is a status on a person in your community. It stops both texts and emails from your agency, including automatic messages.
In My Community, the person's Status shows Do not contact. Their record's Add to a job button is turned off, and they're left out of your community matches for jobs.
