Editing, pausing and closing jobs
Change a job's details, and what publishing, pausing and resuming do to its posting and pipeline.
A job is always in one of five states: Draft, Unpublished, Open, Paused or Closed. You change most things from the buttons at the top of the job's page.
Edit a job
- Open the job from All Jobs.
- Click Edit job.
- Change what you need. Every section is on one page: Basics, Location, Pay, Job description, Workflow, Match criteria, Schedule and Custom fields.
- Click Save changes, or Cancel to leave without saving.
Saving doesn't change the job's state. On an open job, edits go out to your job boards and the CareCommunity board, and community matching runs again.
You can't change the workflow once the job has candidates. See Choosing a workflow for a job.
Résumé and cover letter uploads, and whether the job goes to the free job boards, aren't in the form. They're in the job's Settings tab. See Job settings.
Job states and what they do
| State | Where it's posted | Pipeline |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | Nowhere yet | No pipeline yet |
| Unpublished | Nowhere yet | Working, but no applicants from job boards |
| Open | Your job boards and the CareCommunity job board | Working as normal |
| Paused | Taken down everywhere | Candidates stay put |
| Closed | Taken down everywhere | Candidates stay put |
Publish a draft
In All Jobs, open the Drafts tab and click Finish setup on the draft. Complete the form and click Publish job. The job goes live and community matching starts. Save changes keeps it a draft, and you go back to the Drafts list.
On the Silver plan, if you already have a job live, Publish job saves the job as Unpublished: it gets its pipeline but isn't posted. When you've paused or closed the live job, click Publish job on the unpublished job's page.
Pause and resume
On an open job, click Pause. The job:
- comes off your job boards and the CareCommunity job board, so no new applicants can find it
- leaves its paid ad budget group, if it's in one. If it was the last job in the group, the group pauses too
- stops counting toward your plan's published job limit
Candidates already in the pipeline stay where they are, and you can keep working with them on the board. They no longer appear on Home, because Home only lists people on open jobs.
To reopen it, click Resume. The job goes back online. Resuming counts as publishing, so your plan's limit applies. It doesn't put the job back into a paid ad group; you add it again from Job Ads.
Closed jobs
Closed jobs appear under the Closed tab in All Jobs, with their pipelines. A closed job is taken down the same way as a paused one.
Note: The job page doesn't have a Close button. To stop a job taking applicants, pause it.
Who can do what
- Edit job needs permission to create and edit jobs. Owners, admins and recruiters have it by default.
- Publish job, Pause and Resume need permission to publish jobs. Owners, admins and recruiters have it by default.
If you don't see these buttons, ask your agency owner.
